What do I need to do?
- Print and complete registration form, terms and conditions;
- Read the Tier 4 Guidance Notes and the Tier 4 Help Text which are available on the UK Border Agency website as they will help you to complete the application form.
- Print the Tier 4 application form;
- Open the annotated Tier 4 form on your computer and use it to help you fill out the form;
- Collect the documents below (required by all applicants)
- All passports used for travel into and to stay in the UK
- Fee in postal orders: £357 per student, £80 per dependant under 18 applying at the same time
- Two passport photos from the last month - check they comply with UK Border Agency photo-guidance
- Order your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from your School:
- Collect your financial documents depending on your situation:
- Submit all documents to the Student Services Centre in an A4 envelope.
What happens next?
- Basic check at the Student Services Centre front counter - if your application passes the basic check it will be submitted to the International Advice Team;
- Detailed check in International Advice Team and we will contact you if there are any problems;
- We send your application to the UK Border Agency (UKBA) before your visa expires; you receive an email to confirm this;
- About four weeks later you receive a letter from the UKBA telling you to make an appointment to give your biometric details (fingerprints, facial image).
- You attend the appointment, you can choose which office to go to, the nearest are Sheffield and Liverpool;
- Your biometric details are forwarded to UKBA;
- An UKBA caseworker checks extension application and makes a decision on whether to grant an extension;
- Your documents are returned to us;
- Your ID Card for Foreign Nationals (ICFN) which contains your immigration permission details is returned to IAT (normally one week later);
- We contact you by telephone or email to tell you documents have arrived;
- You collect your documents from the Student Services Centre.
